Are We More Racist Than We Think? YES

Earlier this week, ABC Health aired a segment on their "What Would You Do?" that examined whether people react to overt racism. The segment concluded that we usually don't speak up when confronted with racism.

Today, a new study in the journal "Science" shows our tolerance for racism may be even greater than we believed. The authors say that people don't respond, or even get upset, when they see racism directed at someone else. The abstract states: "Contemporary race relations are marked by an apparent paradox: Overt prejudice is strongly condemned, yet acts of blatant racism still frequently occur. We propose that one reason for this inconsistency is that people misunderstand how they would feel and behave after witnessing racism. The present research demonstrates that although people predicted that they would be very upset by a racist act, when people actually experienced this event they showed relatively little emotional distress..."

Mark Steyn wrote in his essay, "The Oldest Hatred" In Toronto, anti-Israel demonstrators yell “You are the brothers of pigs!”, and a protester complains to his interviewer that “Hitler didn’t do a good job.” And: "In Fort Lauderdale, Palestinian supporters sneer at Jews, “You need a big oven, that’s what you need!” And "In Amsterdam, the crowd shouts, “Hamas, Hamas! Jews to the gas!” Roseanne slams Israel, the 'Nazi' state'.

Here, a Protester Calls for Jews to 'Go Back to the Oven' at Anti-Israel Demonstration.

Yet we know from the Holy Bible that the Israelites "are a holy people unto the LORD your God: the LORD your God hath chosen you to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all people: But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers…” (Deuteronomy 7:6-8).

Question: the protests are real. They were not an experiment in "Science" magazine. People are really shouting racist remarks, spewing hatred and engaging in violence in some cases. Israel has always been surrounded by and persecuted by its neighbors, hated by most. Why is this? According to the Bible, it is because God has a special plan for the nation of Israel, and Satan wants to defeat that plan.

But the fact remains, if you were standing in that crowd or any other where people are engaged in 'overt racism', what would you do? It is the end time. We know that Jeremiah 30 tells us of Israel in the end,

7 How awful that day will be! None will be like it. It will be a time of trouble for Jacob, but he will be saved out of it."

So I ask you now...in that day, will you be able to stand before God and truthfully say you loved whom He loved most specially? Or "did you show relatively little emotional distress"?
