Overcomers: Noah, Daniel, and Job

God speaking to Ezekiel about inescapable judgment:

"Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD." (Ezekiel 14:14).

Why are Noah, Daniel, and Job mentioned as standout, righteous men, in this verse and in Ez 14:20?

"The principal fight of the Christian is with the world, the flesh, and the devil. These are his never-dying foes. These are the three chief enemies against whom he must wage war. Unless he gets the victory over these three, all other victories are useless and vain. If he had a nature like an angel, and were not a fallen creature, the warfare would not be so essential. But with a corrupt heart, a busy devil, and an ensnaring world, he must either “fight” or be lost." (JC Ryle, "Holiness")

Noah overcame the world. Daniel overcame the flesh. Job overcame the devil.

  1. I'd always thought this was an intriguing verse but I'd missed the connection to the world, the flesh and the devil. Now there is even more to contemplate there. Thanks for the insight.

  2. Yes I agree, I had missed it also I love the body of Christ as we can all share as one. xx
I don't ever think or worry about the end times. I feel very secure in Gods love. Yet it is good to see the signs and know it is coming. xx

  3. i Crystal Mary,

Thanks for reading and commenting. I feel very secure in God's love too, *because* of the end times. His prophecies are love letters to us promising to uphold His holiness by stamping out sin, and promises to remain faithful to us while He does it. It is good to know His word is true, right before our eyes!

I urge you to think about the end times. Doing so makes us more vigilant about our walk in closeness to Him, and more fervent in witnessing. Also, the Lord is pleased with those who are watching when he comes, He calls them blessed, Luke 12:37 and he awards a crown for longing for His appearing. 2 Tim 4:8
